
Fiesta and Festivals in Alhaurin el Grande
The Easter or "Semana Santa" parades and enactments which are acted out on the steps of the Town Hall are held in the week running up to Easter weekend. These plays have been declared a "Fiesta of National Tourist Interest in Andalucia".
On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd May in honour of "Cristo de la Santa Vera Cruz" there is a celebration of "Dia de la Cruz". The first and third of May are taken as holidays ie no shops are open.
A fair or "feria" is held each year between the 20th and 31st May, starting on the Wednesday night and ending on the Sunday.
Romeria del Cristo de las Agonias (horse show) is held in the second week of September, from Friday night to the Sunday afternoon.
There is a village celebration of New Year held in the main square; where the local Town Hall hand out bottles of Cava and grapes, to eat as midnight chimes.
